ABSTRACT: Recent years have seen explosive growth in use of new database applications such as CAD systems, spatial information systems, and multimedia information systems. The needs of these applications are far more complex than traditional business applications. An important research issue in the field of these databases is the content-based retrieval of similar objects such as images, spatial objects, text, and videos. However, in contrast to searching data in a relational database, a content-based retrieval requires the search of similar objects as a basic functionality of the database system. So multi-dimensional indexing was found to facilitate the similarity measures. In my presentation, Ill talk about the definition of multi-dimensional indexing and some important indexing and query algorithms.
