Three dimensional object recognition from range images

ABSTRACT: My presentation has three parts. Firstly, I will introduce the basic concepts about object recognition and the characteristics of range iamges. Next, I will present two appraoches to recognize 3D objects from range images. One is called appreance-based approach, the other is the combination of indexing and point-based matching algorithm. For the appreance-based approach, We use some local features and combine them in a high dimensional histogram. Therefore, we can get statistical representations of images. We use histogram matching and MAP estimate to compare the different statistical representations.For the indexing and point-based matching algorithm, we firstly get candidate models from the database based on the shape index histogram, then we apply point-based matching algorithm which computes the number of correspondence points between test image features and model features. We test the alogrithms on synthetic range images and real range images. Finally, I will talk about my future work.
